Director and Senior Leadership:
He serves as a Trustee for the National AIDS Trust, contributing to strategic planning and financial oversight. As a Non-Executive Director at the University of South Wales, College Merthyr Tydfil, and Trustee for the LGBT Consortium, Alessandro focuses on governance and strategic direction. As a funding member of the Fast Track Cymru initiative in Wales, he spearheaded HIV prevention initiatives.
Previously, he was President of the University of Cambridge Graduate Union and Chair of the Board of Trustees. He also covered CEO/Charity Secretary role for the organisation, leading strategic operations and overseeing mergers. He was also part of the Cambridge University Council Board of Directors, the University’s principal, central decision-making body.

Policy:
Alessandro has led significant policy initiatives, including as Head of LGBTQ+ Policy at the Welsh Government, where he developed the pioneering LGBTQ+ Action Plan for Wales. He has been instrumental in shaping HIV policy, co-developing the HIV Action Plan for Wales, and leading initiatives such as HIV testing and prevention, and banning conversion practices.
Alessandro’s policy work extends to high-level collaborations with Ministers and stakeholders, shaping strategies that have earned international recognition, including from the United Nations for his world’s contributions to human rights policy.

Communications and Campaigns:
Alessandro has a proven track record in strategic communications, particularly in the health sector. As Communications Lead for Fast Track Cymru, he has led impactful campaigns aimed at HIV prevention, including founding “Wales HIV Testing Week” and launching the “Stop HIV Stigma” campaign. His ability to engage media and stakeholders has made Fast Track Cymru a leading voice in sexual health advocacy.
He was also a Social Media Content Author for International Gay Rugby (IGR). Alessandro has consistently elevated public awareness of complex issues, driving initiatives to reduce stigma and improve access to healthcare services.

Research:
With a strong academic foundation, Alessandro holds a PhD from the University of Cambridge and has published extensively in material sciences, archaeology, heritage, and related fields.
His senior role as Senior Associate and Research Lead for the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) saw him manage large-scale research projects, such as “Is Wales Fairer?” and the “Human Rights Tracker.” His research work is deeply analytical, combining qualitative and quantitative methodologies to influence policy and deliver evidence-based recommendations, both in academia and in his policy-focused roles.

LGBTQ+ Advocacy:
With almost 15 years of campaigning experience in several countries, he actively promoted and advocated for communities in Wales and England since 2014. Since he moved to Wales, Alessandro has been featured for four years in a row in the “Pinc List” (Western Mail) of most influential LGBTQ+ people. Archaeology and Heritage:
He completed a PhD at the University of Cambridge, where he was also a Research Associate and an Affiliated Scholar. His past research projects were part of the TwoRains project funded by the ERC European Research Council. He was also supported by the Nehru Trust, V&A Museum, London, and by the Fitch Awards, British School at Athens, Greece. He was part of the ARC Archaeology Review of Cambridge editorial committee, an archaeology journal, and he ran the Asian Archaeology seminar group at the University of Cambridge. He was a visiting researcher at Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi, India in 2017-18. He holds an MA in History and Archaeology (University of London, SOAS), BA in Archaeological Sciences at University ‘Sapienza’ of Rome, Italy, including an Erasmus Scholarship at UAM, Universidad Autonoma de Madrid, Spain. He was also Wales representative for Queer Britain, the UK’s LGBT Museum.
He’s an accredited member of archaeological bodies, i.e. CIfA, and worked at European and British museums, such as the Victoria and Albert Museum (Assistant Lecturer, Learning Centre), British Museum (Consultant, South Asian Department) and National Museum of Oriental Art “Tucci”, Rome (Department of Education).
